CAN
The Climate Action Association (CAN) is a nonprofit Jordanian environmental NGO that was established with national no: (2013012200016) according to the Societies’ law No (51) of 2008 and its amendments on 16th April 2013. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment. It is based in Amman, Jordan. Its activities cover all of Jordan. CAN was established as the first environmental organization focused primarily on climate action in Jordan. CAN has succeeded in Promoting Climate Action, Environmental Protection, Climate Change Education And Solutions, And In Serving As A Bridge Between The Science, Policy, And Communities.
CAN works to tackle climate change by bringing forth major societal changes through establishing and building partnerships between business, government, and public bodies to shift towards a sustainable society. CAN creates models and works on climate change adaptation and mitigation, environmental protection, WASH development, and policy/social norms shifting for ensuring sustainability. CAN builds the knowledge and capacity of relevant stakeholders for best practices. Also, CAN conducts policy research and submits proposals on the national and international levels to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Currently, CAN has over 25 full-time employees (7 Male and 13 Female); 18 are first- degree and above holders. Policies and sysystems are in place. CAN Board members are experts in climate change and action and they are well known in the sector of climate salutations. The Chairman of CAN has received recently Abdul Hameed Shoman Innovation Award for his effort in climate action. Additionally, over 25 community agents are serving CAN on voluntary bases.
Our programs are focused on serving the most vulnerable and marginalised people in the Middle East, namely children, adolescent boys and girls, women, persons with disabilities, people from minority clans and other marginalized groups and internally displaced persons (idps). The sectors we work in are climate adaptation, climate mitigation, climate justice, orphans and childcare, socioeconomic development and sustainable livelihood, water, sanitation, and hygiene as well as energy innovations.
CAN is delivered various successful projects, partnerships, and research and has membership in various regional and international environmental consortiums and networks. It also has got “Low Risk” level by BDO International, the world’s premier accountancy and advisory network.

Looking for sustainable development that truly makes an impact at both grassroots and the global level, governments, public institutions, and international businesses should work in strategic, productive, and mutually beneficial partnerships. We envision an environment where there is safe water, improved sanitation, and proper hygiene. We work in a Clean and Sustainable Environment for Jordan's Future Generations.
MISSION
To drive climate action fast and to educate, advocate, and collaborate to ensure the CAN's lands and communities are resilient to a changing climate and environmental degradation. To improve access to clean water, improved sanitation, and proper hygiene in rural communities. To use tried & proven, low-cost, efficient methods to achieve solutions for the WASH sector, climate change adaptation, mitigation, and environmental protection. To build climate change resilient and sustainable human systems, ecosystems, and economies through the mobilization of knowledge, enhanced institutional capacity and informed decision-making processes, and facilitated access to finance and technologies.
